Love an old beat-up house

Recently we upgraded to Dish's HD DVR (again, since we tried it once already 2 years ago). We were told that the DVR needs to be connected to the phone line at all times. Now, this would not be a problem in most modern homes. You find a jack in the same room, get a phone line, hook it up and you are done.

But since we live in a 50+ year old house, the simple task of hooking up to a phone jack almost turned into a mini project. First we tried with a $50 wireless-phone- jack from Target, something like this. But that didn't work, thank goodness for Target's awesome return policy. We then tried to just run a wire straight through the house (yeah, ghetto style!) but Charlie protested and didn't like that very much.

Since I'm not much of a handyman, we called SBC and a few handymen off craigslist.com Most of them told us that they would have to run it through the house or outside under the eve anyway, b/c our semi-Eichler house does not have crawl space or attic. And it would cost us $130!!!

We rolled up our sleeves and did our own "wiring" through the house. Love how its an old house and we can just drill holes and put tacks all over and don't have to worry about it... hee hee

Like our craftmanship?
