Since we got the new 3G iPhone this summer, we've collected about 6 pages of apps so far, most of them free. Recently, we played with 2 interesting apps, Shazam and Amazon Mobile.
Shazam is the oh-I-like-that-song-playing-on-the-radio-now-but-don't-know-the-name-of-it application. It's super simple to use. You start the app while the song is playing and let iPhone "listens" to it. Then it sends the data and comes back with what it thinks the song is. Our first song was Adele's Chasing Pavements. Great fun app for music lovers.

Amazon Mobile, on the other hand, is your run of the mill shopping site app. It does all things you expect Amazon app to do, search products, buy stuff, show your wishlist. But what is unique about this app is the "Remebers" feature. It lets you take photos of things you want to remember using iPhone's camera and then tries to find products for you.

Here are 4 examples of what Amazon came back with. Amazon stores them on amazon.com as well so you can view and manager them there too.

First try with the digital camera return correctly with the exact product, even down to the color, 10.1 Mp Digital Camera Blue.
The second one of the diet Pepsi can was a tougher one. Amazon probably does not sell 6 pack Pepsi, so instead it returned us a DiET Pepsi Logo Ladies T-Shirt Medium. Not too bad.
Now this one was fun. We tried it with this cute monkey face place mats we got from Target. Amazon matched the face and came back with Wii game Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz.
Finally, we tried a tough one with Jeff's watch. It's probably iPhone's camera's fault as it didn't take the best picture, or more of the photographer's fault. But at least Amazon knew it was some kind of watch, Seiko Men's Dress Silver-Tone Watch #SGF719.

I use midomi for music recognition. You can even hum it. Will have to give shazam a try. :)
